Social media is becoming a huge part of everyone's lives. This is especially the case for young people in their middle school, high school, and college years. But aren't these the years where you are supposed to beocme comfortable with being social? Aren't these the years where you learn to go out of your comfort zone and meet new people?
Well with Social Media and Social networking, it's takes the bravery out of it. so much for going up to that girl at lunch and talking to her, I'll just facebook her when i get home so i don't have to put myself in that uncomfortable position.
But it is encountering these curcumstances that make you stronger and more adept to take on occasions like this in the future.
It is important to have an online precense but that is only to build and support your real life self!

Johnathan,
ReplyDeleteI worry that your musings are what we in law call "transference". Do you have a hard time meeting women? You write well, so I can only assume you are a bit of a nerd. Home schooled? This comment is not meant to insult you ego or downtrodden your moral, rather, I see to inform you that there is life outside of SECsportsman.com And there is woman out there who will love you for who you are, regardless of how many pictures you post of yourself with dead animals. I wish you the best, agree with some of the things you say, but ultimately believe that your posts are merely a charade for the insecurities you, yourself have with the opposite sex. Open yourself up to newness, experience and life and drink in all that technology affords you. If it's stalking old girlfriend on the web, or merely posting another shirtless fishing picture, I have no doubt that your lures will taken and the tone of your posts will change to the oh-so common, thank goodness for match.com!!
I think Social network sites simply exacerbate existing personality traits. Anti-social become more anti- social, over sharers no over share electroincally etc. It is important to apply normal social standards to social networking sites.
